ANDREA MOTIS TRIO

The «Norah Jones» from Catalonia!

Introduced to music at a very young age, Andrea Motis began playing the trumpet at just seven years old. At 12, she joined the famous Sant Andreu Jazz Band from Barcelona under the direction of her mentor, the extraordinary Joan Chamorro.

In 2013 Andrea made her first concert appearance outside Spain.... at Fest Jazz ! She enjoyed the festival so much that she returned in 2014 and 2016 with all 35 of her young, fellow musicians in the Saint Andreu Band, including Eva Fernandez and Rita Payes. This extraordinary group’s highly acclaimed appearances are fondly remembered by all those fortunate enough to be present.

It was in 2012, during the Barcelona Jazz Festival, that she was crowned a revelation. She then had the chance to be noticed, and invited on stage, by Quincy Jones himself. He praised her, saying that “she played the trumpet like Harry ‘Sweets’ Edison, the alto saxophone like Johnny Hodges, and that she sang like Billie Holiday!

In fact, her audience quickly nicknamed her the ‘Catalan Norah Jones’. Since then, Andrea has become a world star of jazz, playing from Japan to New York and playing with other great names like Milton Nascimento, Omara Portuondo and the Buena Vista Social Club, Esperanza Spalding and Yo-Yo-Yo Ma. It’s been an extraordinary journey for Andrea Motis.

Comme on dit, « aujourd’hui Châteauneuf-du-Faou, demain le monde ! ». Ce sera formidable de la revoir !
