Châteauneuf-du-Faou is a picturesque Breton market town, nestling in the folds of the valley of the River Aulne. It is situated between the Arrée Mountains (Monts d’Arrée) in the north and the Black Mountains (Montagnes Noires) in the south. This superb location gives the town a wonderful backdrop of varied countryside: dark, mysterious hills, surging streams and rolling Breton pastures that combine to make a splendid and unspoiled natural setting. The town has a rich cultural background; the Breton language is alive and well in this area. One of its famous residents in the early years of the 20th century was the painter, Paul Sérusier, a disciple of Paul Gauguin. It is possible to follow a trail through the town, tracing the life of the artist and the scenes that he painted. In addition, through being at the heart of Finistère, Châteauneuf-du-Faou is well placed to be equidistant from all the best beaches in Brittany. A 40 minute drive will take you to Brittany’s “Riviera” of Bénodet and Fouesnant as well as the wonderful city of Quimper. “Fest-Jazz” takes place on the banks of the beautiful River Aulne which meanders through the town. It is a magnificent setting for the festival and is certainly one of the most attractive parts of Brittany. Come and enjoy!
