6th Fest-Jazz in Châteauneuf-du-Faou
30, 31 july / 1 august 2010

Welcome to the website of » Fest-Jazz »!  In just six years the festival has become one of the most popular festivals in the region and attracts visitors from all over Europe.  The first artists and groups have just been announced for 2010 and again it is a great mix of established stars and young, upcoming groups.  And the styles are mixed too:  New Orleans jazz, Jazz  Manouche,  Boogie-Woogie, Bluegrass, Blues and Swing… all will be on show during the weekend.  The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed with lots of young people in the audience as well as older jazz fans.

Here are some of the first artists to be announced for 2010

Florin Niculescu
Fabulous, sensational, thrilling, musical fireworks, a jazz angel - the violinist who has earned all these superlatives (and more) in the world’s press is a Romanian gypsy by the name of Florin Niculescu and he is topping the bill at Fest-Jazz this summer. It is a massive coup for the festival and promises to make this year’s the most memorable yet..

James Compton
James Compton is an international star of Boogie piano.  His amazing performance at the Salle Arthémuse in Briec in a concert organized by the association in 2009 brought the audience to its feet, shouting for more.  We were determined to bring him back and we are delighted he is joining us for the “Fest-Jazz” this year.

Jazz O’Maniacs
A brilliant group, in the classic jazz style, coming from Germany. They play the music of King Oliver, Jelly Roll Morton and Clarence Williams with enormous technique and swing. They have travelled to festivals in the USA, Scotland and many others in Europe.  A remarkable band!

Blue Magnolia Jass Orchestra
A legend in their native Liverpool, this band is enormously popular everywhere it plays. Hard driving swing and boundless energy make them ideal for dancing and listening.

Jack Danielle’s String Band
A young group from Central Brittany who play bluegrass music but not only “bluegrass”.They mix blues, reggae and jazz into their repertoire and the result is phenomenal!

Gadjo
If you think North Wales is not the likeliest place to find a gypsy jazz group, think again! Gadjo Jazz have been based there for the past 15 years, and have become one of Britain’s leading exponents of the genre. They were a huge hit at the Cork Jazz Festival in 2009 and we are delighted to welcome them to Fest-Jazz this year.

Malo Mazurié
The "Breton Bix"! An 18 year old trumpeter with remarkable talent. First played at Fest-Jazz when he was 13 and since then his ability has won him tours of Japan and a growing international reputation.

Good Time Jazz
The hottest and most popular dixieland band in France at the moment. Lively, good fun and great musicians.
